Compactor questions answered

  • Traditional compactors require a lot of space within loading bays and at least 2.5m of head height in order to load on to the collection vehicle. However, our new mini compactor – The Hubb can fit in the space of 6 x 1100L wheeled bins but can store the waste of up to 40. In addition, this compactor can easily be moved using a pump truck, often found in loading bays.

  • Collection frequencies vary depending on waste production. Large sites can require their compactor emptied daily whereas lower volume sites can have a collection as infrequent as fortnightly. Depending on your waste volumes we can empty your compactor at the most suitable frequency

  • A baler compresses recyclable materials like cardboard and plastics into dense, stackable bales, making them easier to store and transport. Bales are subsequently ejected from the machine allowing you to store multiple bales at your site. In contrast, a compactor compresses the volume of general waste or mixed recycling within a single container, making large volumes of waste more manageable.

  • Compactors compress waste into a single large container using powerful press. This container is then taken off site using a specialist vehicle and returned empty. Bin presses are specifically designed to reduce the volume of waste in wheelie bins or small containers by compacting the contents, making them ideal for smaller-scale operations. These are collected in the same manner as non-compacted wheelie bins.

  • As with any equipment, compactor and bin presses require regular maintenance to ensure they are kept in good working order. We offer preventative maintenance packages with all our equipment, which provide two annual maintenance inspections and services.

  • The size depends on your waste volume and type. For high-volume waste operations, larger compactors are ideal, while bin presses are suited for smaller quantities or businesses with limited space. Our mini compactor The Hubb can store up to 3 tonnes of waste, whilst our larger compactors can store up to 12 tonnes of waste. Contact us today, and we can help you choose the right size based on your specific needs.

  • Compactors and bin presses can handle various types of dry waste, including general waste or dry mixed recycling. These machines are not suitable for use with wet waste such as food or coffee grounds, as these materials would make containers too heavy to transport and empty.

  • Static compactors are ideal for busier operations. We supply an enclosed container that fits the waste compactor; when it’s full, we swap it for an empty one.

Portable waste compactors are suitable for wet waste or odour concerns, and are available for purchase or hire as a single unit.

For sites with limited space or access, we offer smaller skip units, lifted by a skip vehicle. For businesses generating large amounts of waste with available space, we also provide large RORO compactors.
