What is secure data destruction and why is it so important?

With the number of data breaches growing year-on-year, protecting information whilst disposing of confidential waste is more important than ever. The disposal of confidential waste, such as hard drives or highly sensitive documents, ensure that no trace of the data contained is left. This is vital to prevent malicious actors from getting private data.

It is also a legal requirement for businesses. With Recorra, you can trust that your business’s confidential shredding, waste disposal, and data destruction are secure, compliant, and environmentally responsible.

Confidential waste destruction questions answered

  • The disposal of confidential waste is primarily governed by two key regulations: the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

The Data Protection Act 2018 sets out how personal data must be collected, handled, and stored to protect people’s privacy. It also gives individuals the right to know what personal data is held about them and to have that data erased.

The UK General Data Protection Regulation was created post-Brexit and replaces the previous EU law. The UK GDPR is very similar to the European Union version and places similar obligations on data controllers and processors.

  • We don’t recommend incinerating paper due to the toxic fumes created by burning ink. It also adds further carbon emissions to the atmosphere.

  • These are sent to clients automatically through our internal MIS, Prada.

  • Because confidential waste bins are locked for security reasons, you will have to contact our helpdesk and we will respond as fast as possible.

  • This is a code of practice that sets the standard for security screening of people employed in a security environment. It includes data security and confidential records.
