PIMCO reaps the benefits with Recorra's Vegware Compostables service

Providing global investment management company PIMCO total waste management services

About the client

PIMCO are a global investment management company with London offices on Baker Street. We’ve worked with them for several years, providing total waste management services as part of the Baker Street Quarter Partnership.

Their challenge

Already making the most of over 10 of our waste and recycling services, PIMCO have always been on the hunt for ways to minimise the environmental impacts of their operations and boost their recycling rates.

With small kitchenettes and limited storage space at London HQ, they were unable to use reusable crockery and cutlery for staff mealtimes, so had to opt for disposables. Because of the risk of food contamination in recycling, that meant all disposables had to go into general waste – not their first choice!

So, high on the agenda for PIMCO was to find another solution for food disposables.

Our solution

In 2020 after successful trials, we were able to officially launch our   Vegware Compostables scheme  – PIMCO was one of our first customers to sign up!They switched all cutlery, plates, and cups to Vegware as they knew this was the best option for their building and could safely dispose of these items with food scraps (that would otherwise have gone to general waste) without any issues.

The results

PIMCO have now been successfully collecting Vegware Compostables (although at a much lower capacity due to Coronavirus) for almost a year. They’ve installed signage and will be making the most of the Vegware training sessions available when we return to offices and can safely carry these out.

One happy customer

Once we were able to join the scheme and create the right waste pattern for the people to follow, making it easy for all to sort their waste properly, the response was exceedingly positive. I think it’s an easy thing to institute and brings a real sense of satisfaction to the end user.
