Zero Waste Week is designed to be the “all in one feel good solution to save money, protect the environment and get popular”. The week has already attracted over 1,300 pledges and that number’s growing every day.
Each year has a theme, and this year it’s “Reuse”. If you’d like to take part, you can take a pledge on their site. Here are some example of pledges taken so far:
- Reuse shopping bags
- Reuse foil
- Reuse jars for storage
If you’re interested in more ideas you can take a look at the zero waste website where you can search for (or submit your own) recipes to help use up old ingredients and leftovers, or sign up to the newsletter.
At Paper Round we’re always interested in new ways of moving waste up the waste hierarchy and reuse is right at the top.
For those things that you’re unable to reuse, we will always provide the most environmentally friendly route from collection to the recycling process. For example, we carefully plan our routes to avoid unnecessary journeys and choose recycling facilities that are as close to our facility as possible to minimise on CO2 emissions, only making deliveries when we have a full container.
If something isn’t recyclable, our general waste services are 100% zero-to-landfill. General waste is taken by barge, up the river Thames to an energy-from-waste facility, where it is incinerated and the energy generated put back into the national grid.
You can find out more about the types of material we recycle and how they’re recycled, just visit the services section of our website.
