What's New at the Zoo?!

Tuesday 4th October 2016

We are proud supporters of ZSL London Zoo, and despite the gloomy weather we’ve sent a bright bunch of Paper Round staff to volunteer.

Our office staff have layered up in stomping boots and wet weather gear, to brave the autumn drizzle. It’s important for London Zoo that the volunteers make a decent contribution to the work load. In the years of volunteering we’ve – like Santa’s little helpers – made toys for reindeers; in true Bake-Off style we’ve zealously prepared dinner for giraffes; and raked leaves to clear up for the hilariously named bearded pigs.

The work ZSL London Zoo do for conservation and the care they provide for the 18,430 animals who live there is truly inspiring. Capturing the essence and brilliance of the animals they look after, ZSL’s annual Animal Photography Prize has been announced this September. You can view the winning photography at the exhibition currently on display at the zoo until February 2017. (And don’t worry – this is covered by the standard Zoo admission price!) You can find out more about the photography exhibition in this article.

My personal favourite: Kingpin by Mike Reyfman is runner up of the Weird and Wonderful category. (c) Mike Reyfman

The photographs are divided into six categories, including Weird and Wonderful, Urban City Life, and Size Matters. From 3,000 entries, a judging panel has selected the winners and runners up from each category, plus an overall winner. So there’s plenty to see – get down there while you still can!
