We live in a world where nearly everything is seen as replaceable or disposable. When we talk about throwaway culture, we’re talking about an economy strongly influenced by consumerism. It features overconsumption and a preference for short-lived products, which maximise profit, rather than creating durable goods that don’t need constant replacing.
We need to look beyond ‘take, make, dispose’ and move towards a circular economy. The circular economy keeps resources in use for as long as possible, recovering and regenerating materials at the end of their life.
But why is this so important? Because our throwaway society is draining the world’s resources, as well as our pockets. Our short-termism is also harming our environment, polluting our oceans and our wildlife. And that is exactly why we decided to run this campaign. We want to educate and inspire our customers and followers to move towards a circular economy and think about the impacts throwaway culture is having on our planet.

Today sees the launch of #ThrowawayCultureUnwrapped. Throughout our campaign we will be unraveling the truth behind our obsession with disposable products and spotlighting the latest innovations that are combating this problem. We’ll be posting blogs, facts, tips and insightful articles on the subject. We will give you the low down on plastic packaging alternatives and whether these are actually the answer; on how to become a sustainable fashionista and on how to live without plastics, just to name a few.
A single-use packaging seminar will help our customers tackle plastic problems in the workplace, and we’ll be profiling some of our fantastic customers and partners who are fighting the war on waste. Look out for our handy guide summarising all the best information from the campaign, to help your workplace quit its plastic fix.
An unmissable competition will form the finale of our campaign, where we’ll be rewarding the ultimate zero waste champ with a luxury hamper bursting with goodies to turn any plastic-bottle-buying-being into a waste-free-wonder, so keep your eyes peeled and best of all, get involved!
We hope that you enjoy our campaign. Please get involved in the conversation by tweeting us @PaperRound and using the hashtag #ThrowawayCultureUnwrapped.
