Our ESG Project Lead, Ed Van Reenen, has given us another update from South Africa! This time, we delve into the magical world of Teniqua Treetops where he has been leading in-person recycling training with staff.

Training in the Treetops
In this rural community, we’re on a mission to spread recycling engagement with businesses and households. This week, I was at the enchanting Teniqua Treetops, a nature-based haven, to train their fantastic team. Front of house, housekeeping, maintenance staff, and even the hotel owner, Anthony, all gathered for the recycling session.
The Teniqua Treetops crew already has a bin segregation system in place for guests, but unfortunately, it’s not always followed by guests. So, the committed staff have been sorting waste behind the scenes and composting organic material right on the premises. Very eco!

During our training session, we dove into the nitty-gritty of recyclable materials, explored the journey of recyclables from the bin to the collection vehicle, and highlighted the awesome environmental and economic benefits of recycling. Anthony is taking things forward by laminating the colourful recycling pamphlets to is display on the fridge doors of the hotel’s tree houses. We’re incredibly grateful for the supportive ethos at Teniqua Treetops.
And what’s a training without a little sweet-treat? We brought along some sweets that were a hit while everyone enjoyed an informative video about recycling facilities.
Worth a mention also, their off-grid water filtration system, it features a natural reed bed system, and their entire hotel is powered by solar energy!
