The Green Apple Awards recognize, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. At Recorra, we love to show off all the great work out customers are doing. So, this year we nominated four of our customers for Green Apples, those who are leading the way in best practice recycling.
On Monday 12th November, we headed to the Houses of Parliament eager to find out the results of this prestigious award.
Rosewood London
Rosewood London are a 5-star hotel in Holborn. They have created a dedicated programme which puts environmental responsibility and sustainability at the forefront of their business.
They impressed the judges with their excellent environmental savings and efforts to move waste streams up the waste hierarchy and were awarded a Silver Green Apple – an amazing result considering the hospitality industry is often criticized for being wasteful.
London Metropolitan University
London Metropolitan University is a vibrant, socially diverse university and one of the best for carbon reduction. As part of their Environmental Sustainability Strategy, they identified several key environmental challenges, including waste. Their aim was to implement the waste hierarchy where possible.
They were awarded a Bronze Green Apple award for their ambitious journey to zero waste which has led to several environmental and social benefits for students and staff.
Property Support Services
Property Support Services are a service delivery company providing bespoke cleaning services. Their engagement and educational activities have helped to improve the recycling rates of PSS Regent Street and have led to environmental savings.
They were awarded a Silver Green Apple for their sterling range of educational and engagement activities which impressed the judges such as seminars and roadshows, recycling guides, newsletters and site visits. All have contributed to improved recycling rates and a better awareness of the recycling scheme.
Regent’s University London
Regent’s University London is an independent university based in the heart of Regents Park in London. They consolidated their waste providers to create a best practice recycling scheme.
Engaging students is not always an easy task, but Regent’s University took to the challenge and were awarded a Bronze Green Apple award. Their impressive recycling rates and range of engagement activities such as roadshows, site visits and new campaigns such as ‘bin the bin’ really impressed the judges. They also carried out a range of sustainable procurement activities, such as changing their coffee cups, and replacing hand towels with dryers.
We are really proud of all the great work our customers are doing in partnership with Recorra, and can’t wait for what 2019 brings.
