As a leading commercial waste management company in London, we recognise that climate change is no longer a distant threat- it’s a challenge that demands urgent action today. Recorra has made it our mission to not only manage waste efficiently but also to drive substantial environmental progress across all our operations. Our mission? Net zero.
The journey so far
Net zero is a goal we’ve been working towards for a while. Over the past few years, we have made significant progress, including:
- Innovative recycling solutions: we now recycle 38 waste streams and counting, more than any other commercial waste company in the South East. We’ve continued to innovate, introducing new recycling streams and services – our latest is our green waste collection service, the first of its kind in London, allowing businesses to manage their organic waste more sustainably.
- Expanding our electric vehicle fleet: we’ve invested £7m into expanding our fleet of electric vehicles, purchasing our first brand new electric trucks, which will reduce our use of fossil fuels and cut down our carbon emissions. This includes the launch of our zero-emission e-bike waste collection service.
- Sustainability expertise: From carbon reporting to waste reduction strategies, we’re helping businesses across London take meaningful steps towards net zero. Our Consultancy team has doubled in size, offering even more comprehensive support to our customers in their sustainability journeys. And we now have our very own Net Zero Strategist, who works on our long-term decarbonisation, carbon reporting and collaborates with clients on Net Zero projects. You can follow her journey monthly on LinkedIn via her ‘Carbon Catchup’ series.
Raising the bar
Whilst we’re proud of our achievements, we know there’s much more to do. The landscape of sustainability is evolving rapidly, and we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve. Here’s how we plan to continue driving change:
- Increasing zero-emissions collections. Our goal is to significantly increase the percentage of waste collections carried out by zero-emissions vehicles. This includes scaling e-bike use, further reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing the efficiency of our operations.
- Empowering customers with carbon reporting. We shall enhance and continue to provide customers with detailed insights into their environmental impact as a business. By helping them understand where they can make changes, we’re doing more than offering a service- we’re fostering a culture of sustainability across all sectors.
- Enhancing circular economy practices. We aim to further integrate circular economy principles into our operations. This involves expanding our Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and continuing to recycle new material waste streams. By doing so, we’re not just managing waste- we’re turning it into new, valuable resources.
- Deepening our partnerships for greater impact. Collaboration is key to achieving our goals. We’re strengthening our partnerships with our customers and with charity partners to share resources, expertise, and innovations. Together, we can tackle the biggest sustainability challenges facing our industry.
The waste landscape is changing rapidly, driven by new regulations, technological advancements, and shifting consumer expectations. Carbon legislation is tightening, and the cost of general waste disposal is set to rise, making sustainable waste management more important than ever. By reducing waste, cutting emissions, and helping our customers achieve their own sustainability goals, we’re taking steps every day towards net zero.Contact helpdesk@recorra.co.uk to join us on our journey. Our mission?
