Compliance to Community: Food waste recycling with Recorra

The UK government has recently introduced significant reforms aimed at simplifying recycling collections and strengthening regulations within the waste management system. These changes are designed to standardise recycling processes across England. From March 2025, businesses will be required to recycle all food waste they produce. Recorra’s food waste recycling service simplifies compliance, helping businesses avoid penalties while ensuring food waste is collected, processed, and recycled sustainably. By keeping food waste out of landfills, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a circular economy. At Recorra, we believe that food waste management goes beyond compliance—it’s about creating lasting change for the environment and for our communities. Our food waste recycling service not only helps businesses adhere to the UK’s evolving recycling legislation but also directly supports charitable efforts to combat hunger.

Tackling food insecurity within our local communities

Recorra is proud to work with local organisations to support communities in need. We have been working with FareShare for years along the South Coast to redistribute surplus food from supermarkets and retailers to vulnerable people across the UK. Every week, FareShare provides food for nearly one million meals, ensuring that surplus food helps combat food insecurity rather than ending up in landfills. We also partner with Plan Zheroes in London, working from Borough Market and King’s Cross to redistribute surplus food from businesses to local charities across London. Earlier this year, our Sustainability Team spent an evening with Plan Zheroes collecting surplus food from Borough Market traders and packaging it for distribution to local charities. This activity was a perfect example of how businesses can not only reduce food waste but also directly support their local communities. For every food waste collection we make, we donate the equivalent of one meal to Plan Zheroes and FareShare, directly supporting their efforts to provide meals to those in need. In 2023 alone, Recorra helped provide 48,100 meals to those in need through partnerships with FareShare and Plan Zheroes. By partnering with FareShare, Recorra ensures that your food waste management makes a tangible difference in the fight against hunger, particularly on the South Coast where we work together to prevent food waste and tackle food insecurity.
