To still enjoy a real tree, try and find a British grower. 95% of Christmas Trees are grown in the UK so this shouldn’t be too hard and there’s less CO2 as a result of transportation. Plus, the farms where the trees are grown provide a habitat for wildlife and a freshly cut tree is greener than an imported fake tree. Finally, make sure your tree is recycled when you’re done. Most often when councils collect the trees they are shredded and turned into wood chip for use in building materials, compost and road surfacing.
There’s a few other ways you can have an environmentally friendly Christmas Tree experience this year, take a look at http://www.theecologist.org/green_green_living/171… for more information.
