It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly the end of 2014, and with the start of the New Year comes changes to UK waste legislation. We’ve produced this handy guide to help your business understand the changes coming to UK waste regulations from 1st January 2015….
What do they say?
The regulations state that “Separate collection shall be set up for at least the following: paper, metal, plastic and glass” They then go onto say that this only applies where it is necessary to “ensure facilitate or improve recovery” and where it is “Technically, Environmentally and Economically Practicable” (or TEEP) to do so.
What does this mean for you?
You have a responsibility to segregate materials if this has an impact on them getting recycled further down the line. For example, when glass is collected in the same sack or bin as other recyclables, it is likely to break. Shards of glass then contaminate other recyclables and they can be refused for recycling.
