Carbon Catch-up: We Have Passed Our Carbon Footprint Audit

Carbon Catch-up time! (slightly belated)

Huge News! – We passed our carbon footprint audit!

This means:
Scope 1
Scope 2
SCOPE 3!

We still need to receive the final certificate and turn the report into something that makes sense to a general audience – at the moment it’s heavy with technical jargon. But once we do, we will disclose all our emissions publicly as part of Recorra’s commitment to transparent governance.

Recap of the audit experience

The week began ominously, as Storm Bert prevented our lovely auditor Ashley from arriving until lunch-time on Monday. Then the taxi dropped her off in the wrong place, and I had to sprint around the industrial estate, dodging enormous rain puddles and balancing several cheese toasties to find her round the back of the MRF. Once we got through the hurdle of being in the same location, the next few days were a mix of straightforward but rather stressful justifications of our calculations, with some frantic attempts to find specific invoices and expense forms. When we received final confirmation that we had passed late on Friday, I did quite a lot of jumping up and down in the office and felt rather overwhelmed that it was finally done.

This has been an enormous piece of work, far fiddlier and difficult than I could’ve believed when I committed to internally completing the project six months ago. But I’m glad that Jess and I did – we have learnt an enormous amount about the technical processes, challenges and trade-offs of corporate disclosures by doing it ourselves. I am going to write a longer piece with my thoughts on the project in the new year.

Other News

Other events of the month include attending the National Recycling Awards, where Recorra was nominated in several categories, (you can see my selfies with Robbie Campbell-Brown in the photos) and continuing with various ESG supplier forums.

Until next time!
