A Busy Awards Seasons for Recorra

It has been a very busy few weeks at Recorra, winning multiple awards across industries for our recycling and sustainability initiatives.  

This Autumn we’re thrilled to have won 3 incredible awards:  

1. The Circular and Recycling Award for Product Recycling (in partnership with Tork/Essity) at the National Sustainability Awards for our industry first paper towel recycling. 
2. The Social Sustainability Award at the Office Friendly 30th Conference 
3. The Bronze Award for Waste Reduction & Minimisation (in partnership with the National Theatre) at the Global Good Awards 

The Circular and Recycling Award for Product Recycling: Recorra’s Paper Towel Recycling in Partnership with Tork/Essity at the National Sustainability Awards

Celebrating new and exciting ways of creating a more circular economy, reducing waste and reusing resources – this award is one to be proud of.  

Tork and Recorra have developed the UK’s first paper towel recycling scheme. Less than 1% of the UK’s paper towels were recycled before this scheme. Tork’s groundbreaking PaperCircle® recycling process, in combination with Recorra’s collection infrastructure and sustainability driven customers, has now resulted in over 65,000 kg of paper towels being recycled since its launch in 2022.

We now collect from 60 separate locations and have saved almost 200 tonnes of paper towels from incineration and offer businesses an option that can reduce their carbon emissions from paper towels by 40% compared to sending them to general waste. Recorra also offers a fully circular service by allowing our customers to repurchase paper towels through our office supplies arm.

The Social Sustainability Award at the Office Friendly 30th Conference

The Social Sustainability Award from the Office Friendly Award’s was judged on 5 key areas that are at the heart of what we do at Recorra: carbon footprint, single-use packaging, waste management, sustainable products and social responsibility.  

Our Sustainable Office Supplies are an exciting circular solution to these problems – rescuing otherwise lost materials and using them to create closed-loop office products. We are proud to have won this award as a reflection of our dedication and innovation in going above and beyond for sustainability.  

The Bronze Award for Waste Reduction & Minimisation in Partnership with the National Theatre at the Global Good Awards.

Acknowledging efforts made across industries for minimising water, food and energy wastage, the Bronze Award for Waste Reduction and Minimisation granted to the National Theatre for its recycling efforts with Recorra is well deserved.  

Through our effective, sustainable waste management, the National Theatre now recycles over 20 waste streams including cardboard, wood, and metal as well as other niche streams identified in our dedicated waste audit. Since implementing our updated recycling scheme between 2021 and 2023,  the theatre’s carbon emissions from waste have reduced by an estimated 16,000kg per month. 

We have worked closely with the National Theatre for many years and are honoured to continue to grow with them, helping to reduce both their carbon footprint and waste output.
